Book Release: The Etiquette of Dialogue in Allah’s Book

Alhamdulillah, the book is now available from Nawa Books

Two Timely Essays by Imam al-Būṭī on Language, Dialogue, and the Qurʾān

In this powerful and timely volume, Imam Muḥammad Saʿīd Ramaḍān al-Būṭī, one of the foremost scholars of our time, presents two profound essays on the Qurʾān’s guidance concerning speech, dialogue, and the preservation of language.

The first essay, The Etiquettes of Dialogue in Allah’s Book, explores how the Qurʾān instructs believers to engage in respectful, wise, and principled dialogue. Drawing directly from Qurʾānic verses, Imam al-Būṭī demonstrates that the believer’s approach to discussion — whether with fellow Muslims or with those who reject faith — must be rooted in clarity, logic, compassion, and ethical integrity. Far from encouraging polemics or verbal conquest, the Qurʾān lays out a framework for inviting others to the truth with sincerity and dignity.

The second essay, Preserving the Arabic Language and Its Literature, is a stirring defence of the Arabic language and its central role in the life of the Muslim ummah. Imam al-Būṭī exposes the ideological agendas — both historical and modern, colonial and internal —  that have sought to weaken or displace Arabic, arguing that such efforts threaten the Ummah’s direct connection to the Qurʾān and thus, by extension, their relationship with Allah Himself.

Both essays are presented with fully vocalised Arabic text alongside precise English translations, offering timeless guidance for seekers of knowledge, Arabic students, educators, those engaged in daʿwah, and all who are committed to preserving the integrity of Islam.

Deeply rooted in love for Allah, His Book, and the language in which it was revealed, this volume is a call to reflection, revival, and action.

Book Release: The Eminent Rank of Al-Quds

Alhamdulillah, the book is now available from Nawa Books

Blurb:

In the current age, al-Quds is the world’s intractable puzzle, with the Jews holding onto it and the Muslims and Arabs being even more steadfast. Can diplomatic means solve this puzzle?

This book looks at the historical record as well as the facts on the ground, from ancient times through to today. Not only does history show that the Zionist claims to al-Quds are weak, but Israeli actions in this age, the murders, massacres, terrorism, destruction, and the expulsion of the Arab inhabitants through various means, prove and demonstrate that they should not have control or authority over it. They are not worthy of it and they have proven themselves unworthy.

In this book, you will find convincing and conclusive responses to Zionist claims, backed up by objective, demonstrative, academic research regarding the conditions of al-Quds and its inhabitants. It underscores its sanctity to the followers of the three religions present there and assures everyone of their right to practice their rituals under Arab-Islamic sovereignty, with Arabs having priority in its administration, due to their initial settling and then residing and ruling there for millennia, before Islam and after. The book firmly rejects the idea of internationalizing al-Quds, emphasising its deep Arab and Islamic roots and its integral part of the Muslims’ creed, as explicitly stated in the Qurʾān. It also examines the historical Islamic-Arab presence in al-Quds over those millennia and in accordance with contemporary international law.

Book Release: Some Secrets of the Divine Approach

The sixth volume of the Pinnacle Papers is now available from Nawa Books

Blurb:

In Islam, there are fundamental principles, each of which stands first on the pillar of belief and secondly on conduct. This book contains a brief explanation of all these fundamentals: it clarifies their basis first from the texts of the Quran and the authentic Sunnah and then, second, succinctly explains their content.

Third, it then discusses their wisdom and benefit to society and the secret behind their legislation. Thus, it combines the knowledge of Islam as creed, thought, and conduct. Among these fundamentals are: faith in Allah and the secret behind its necessity, the way to unite the Muslims, the remembrance of Allah and its effect on man’s life, knowledge is the foundation of all conduct and creed, gentleness in following religious rulings, and separating from evil and its people.

From the introduction:

"In this volume, Imam al-Būṭī, may Allah have mercy on him, delves into a topic that many people overlook or maybe never even think about, which is that there is profound wisdom behind everything Allah does and everything He commands, the first of which is the command to believe in Him and acknowledge one’s slavehood to Him.

After that, the imam lists more than twenty other commands and their wisdoms, ranging from raising children and being good to parents to justice in transactions, from not accepting reports from dubious sources to explaining how true knowledge is the source of every word and deed, from the wisdom of dhikr to the wisdom of duʿāʾ, and so forth.

Upon finishing the book, all of this leaves the attentive reader in a far better position than when he started, for now he has a profound understanding of and insight into Allah’s commands, which are the foundation of his relationship with Allah.

His commands are His expectations of you; you demonstrate your love to Allah by meeting those expectations. When you understand that those expectations are rooted in His love and concern for you, you will find yourself enthusiastic and eager please Him.

And with Allah alone is every success."

Book Release: Al-Fiqh Al-Manhaji: A Systematic Manual According to the Madhhab of Imam Ash-Shafi'i, Volume 1, Purification & Prayer

Alhamdulillah, the book is now available from Nawa Books

Blurb:

The best that man preoccupies himself with is knowledge of the lawful and the unlawful regarding rulings, and knowing the valid from the invalid regarding actions; it is the science of fiqh that has taken it upon itself to elucidate that. Many of the early scholars wrote so many books in this field that it is almost impossible to count; including exhaustive works, abridged works, commentaries, and research papers focusing on main issues as well as branch issues. The Islamic library still needs to grow, which is this book’s point of departure; it covers the main fiqh issues along with their evidences from the Noble Book and the Purified Sunnah, and the authors have also added whatever wisdoms can be gleaned from each ruling. The wording is clear and concise and the numerous headings and subheadings make it very easy for the reader to navigate the various topics and issues.

Excerpts:

What is Zakāt al-Fiṭr?
What are the Mufaṣṣal in the Qurʾān?
Introducing Shafi'i Fiqh

The Authors:

The authors are Imam Mustafa al-Khin, may Allah have mercy on him, Imam Ali ash-Sharbaji, may Allah preserve him, and Imam Mustafa al-Bugha, may Allah preserve him. Here are a few clips from Imam Mustafa al-Bugha's lessons:

Book Release: Dedicating Rewards to the Deceased

Alhamdulillah, the book-a joint project by Nawa Books and The Foreword Publications-is now available from Amazon and Lulu

Blurb:

If a person were to supplicate, recite the Noble Qurʾān, give in charity, or do any other act of worship and righteousness, and then dedicate the reward for that deed to someone deceased from this Ummah and ask Allah the Exalted to make it reach that deceased person, is such an action legitimate? And does the reward for that deed reach that deceased person?

Shaykh Muḥammad Fawāz an-Nimr, may Allah preserve him, is one of the leading Ḥanafī teachers of this age, based in Damascus. He graduated from Maʿhad al-Fatḥ al-Islāmī in 1985 and in the following year took up teaching posts at that institute as well as at the Umayyad Grand Masjid. Since then, he has taught several books on various topics. His lessons are available on YouTube and several are uploaded daily to his channel: @MFawazAlnemer.

From the translator's introduction:

The book in your hands is an attempt to put an end to a debate that actually ended several centuries ago. That is, it ended among the ʿulamāʾ, those who are qualified to speak on the matter, and yet, for some reason, it has been revived in recent times. As you will see in the book and in the appendices, the early generations did indeed differ over whether the reward for reciting the Qurʾān reached the deceased, but over time they came to be of one accord: the reward for reciting the Qurʾān does indeed reach the deceased and it is the muʿtamad position of all Four Schools.

These words of Imam as-Suyūṭī in Sharḥ as-Ṣudūr, which are quoted in Appendix A, make this very clear:

[The ʿulamāʾ] also infer from the aḥādīth that mention it, even though they are weak, for their sum total indicates that there is a foundation. Furthermore, the Muslims in every big city still gather together and recite for the benefit of their deceased without any reproach. Thus, it is a consensus. All of this has been mentioned by al-Ḥāfiẓ Shams ad-Dīn ibn ʿAbdul Wāḥid al-Maqdasī al-Ḥanbalī in a volume he wrote on the issue.

Al-Qurṭubī said, ‘Ash-Sheikh ʿIzz ad-Dīn ibn ʿAbdis Salām would issue fatāwā stating the reward for what one recites does not reach the deceased. When he had died, one of his companions saw him, so he said to him, “You used to say the reward for what one recites does not reach the deceased and is not gifted to him, so how is it?” He replied, “I used to say that in the abode of the world. Now, I have gone back on my position after seeing Allah’s magnanimity therein and that it does reach him”.’

And with Allah alone is every success.

Book Release: The Rights of the Husband and Wife

Alhamdulilah, this book is now available

Blurb:

It is from Allah’s wisdom, Glorified and Exalted is He, that, over time, the Muslims have spread to every corner of the earth. In recent decades, however, this spread has been attributed to several causes, and what has been noticed and is not hidden from anybody who is familiar with the state of Muslims in Western societies is their lacking many of the factors of a social and Islamic upbringing that are normal and customary in Islamic societies. These norms and customs, of course, come from the Revealed Law, whose source is the Book, the Sunnah, the consensus of the Ummah, and the preferred opinions of the imams and scholars. Thus, one of the most important reasons for the social stability that is found in Islamic societies is that life is based on solid foundations that come from the teachings of the Revealed Law.

Shaykh ʿAbdul Hādī al-Kharsah was born in Damascus in 1378 AH/1959 CE and graduated from Al-Azhar in 1980. He has taken knowledge from the senior most Muslim scholars of his age and has several chains of transmission in ḥadīth from the senior most ḥadīth scholars.

The shaykh specialises in theology and Ḥanafī fiqh, as well as the educational and behavioural sciences.

He is considered an authority (marjaʿ) in ash-Shām and the leader of a knowledge-based revival. His preaching is distinguished by moderation, accurate understanding, foresight, and conciliation.

Shaykh ʿAbdul Hādī has also authored several works, and they have had a massive influence on students of knowledge and Islamic communities.

Al-Ḥāfiẓ Nūruddīn ʿItr

A translation of this biography from Naseem al-Sham

Prof Dr Nūruddīn ʿItr

He is the imam, the great scholar, the mufassir, the muḥaddith, the ḥāfiẓ, the faqīh, Prof, Dr Nūruddīn ʿItr, Ḥasanī of lineage,[1]Ḥanafī in madhhab, born in Aleppo and resident of Damascus. He achieved precedence in the sciences of the noble, Prophetic ḥadīth, in both narration and knowledge, in the fields of teaching, editing, and authoring. He was the scion of a knowledgeable family, deeply rooted in piety and righteousness and firmly established in the sciences of the Revealed Law, both inwardly and outwardly.

Prof Dr Nūruddīn ʿItr was born in Aleppo in the year 1356 AH (1937 CE)[2]. His father, al-Ḥājj Muḥammad ʿItr, was one of the top students of the great scholar, the sheikh, the knower of Allah, Muḥammad Najīb Sirājuddīn, may Allah have mercy on him and be pleased with him.[3] Al-Ḥājj Muḥammad was a scholar who acted according to his knowledge, and a nurturer and a guide for others. He vowed to dedicate his son to the service of Allah the Exalted’s religion, and prepared the necessary means for him. Then Allah, through His kindness and generosity, brought the matter about. He studied at a high school for the study of the Revealed Law (al-Khasrawiyyah) and was distinguished by his excellent academic performance and precedence in both knowledge and action in that time. He received his high school diploma in 1954 and was the top of his class. Immediately after that, he joined al-Azhar University in Egypt[4] and got his degree in 1958, graduating at the top of his class. He caught the attention of his noble professors, the shuyūkh and scholars of al-Azhar, because of the characteristics of nobility, diligence, and piety that they saw in him. The Lord willed that He would benefit from the righteous scholars that were there, such as ash-Sheikh Muṣṭafā Mujāhid, ash-Sheikh Muḥammad Muḥammad as-Samāḥī, ash-Sheikh ʿAbdul Wahhāb al-Buhayrī, ash-Sheikh Muḥammad Muḥyī ad-Dīn ʿAbdul Ḥamīd, may Allah have mercy on all of them and raise their rank. However, the one who the most influence on him in his formative years, both spiritually and in knowledge, was the lamp of the Ummah in its recent decades, the Sheikh of Islam, the great scholar, ash-Sheikh Sirājuddīn al-Ḥusaynī, the ḥāfiẓ, the mufassir, the knower and verifier, and Dr Nūruddīn, may Allah have mercy on him, is his maternal nephew and his son-in-law, his daughter’s husband.

In 1964, he received his ʿĀlamiyyah diploma with a doctorate from the department of Tafsīr and Ḥadīth, earning a distinction with honours, the title of his dissertation being ‘At-Tirmidhī’s Method in his Jāmiʿ and How it Compares to the Two Ṣaḥīḥ Collections’, which is considered an unrivalled work in terms of both its content and its methodology. The unique way in which he laid out his chapters has come to be relied upon by many researchers in the field of the methodologies employed by the compilers of ḥadīth.

After attaining his doctorate, he went straight back to Syria and taught at the high school level for a short period of time. He was then appointed to teach Prophetic Ḥadīth at the Islamic University in al-Madīnah al-Munawarrah from 1965 to 1967, may the best prayers and peace be upon its resident.

In 1967, he returned to Damascus to be appointed a lecturer and then professor in the Faculty of the Revealed Law at Damascus University. He taught the two subjects of Ḥadīth and Tafsīr in the humanities faculties at the universities of Damascus and Aleppo. Likewise, he taught at several other Arab and Islamic universities for brief periods of time, in addition to numerous masjids. He continued – by Allah’s grace, Mighty and Majestic is He – to teach at the Faculty of the Revealed Law until the final months of his life, stopping only because of his illness. Thousands of lecturers graduated under him, including an elite group of distinguished scholars and professors.

He was also a specialist in evaluating both undergraduate and graduate curricula in several universities in the Islamic world.

He supervised dozens of university dissertations, at both the MA and PhD level, and was a referee for development studies of university lecturers. He was known for his strict accuracy in refereeing.

His works number more than fifty, in terms of both editing and authoring, his most prominent book being Minhāj an-Naqd fīʿUlūm al-Ḥadīth, which is considered a new, historical phase in the science of ḥadīth terminology after the phase of Shaikh al-Islam al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī.

His book ʾIʿlām al-Anām, which is considered a unique gift in analysing ḥadīth, is exceptional in clarifying how the fuqahāʾ of the Ummah derived differing rulings from the same text. In general, his books were characterised by their originality in chapter arrangement and condensation of information, but were still clear for the one wanting to specialise in that topic. These qualities are rarely found together. Most of his writings are standard textbooks in curricula at several universities, such as the University of Damascus, al-Azhar, and others.

For his students, he was a compassionate father, a strict teacher, and a rectifying nurturer. He affected their lives in terms of knowledge and calling people to Allah. He was also very experienced in opening many institutes and schools dedicated to the study of the Revealed Law, and he secretly assisted a number of students of knowledge with their material needs.

The sheikh, the great scholar, despite being one of greatest ḥadīth scholars of our age, if not the greatest, was distinguished by his clear spiritual life. His objective was to purify his soul. His goal was to attain the pleasure of Allah and His Messenger. He refrained from holding posts and from this worldly life. He was modest, magnanimous, merciful, as pure-hearted as snow, humble, gentle-hearted, and tearful. The insightful people who attended his gatherings were absolutely certain that the sheikh was living in the world of someone whose heart loves them and is attaching to the noblest master, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, as well as his Companions and Followers. Thus, despite his immense achievements, he constantly chose to be unknown, to stay away from the bright lights as much as possible. Indeed, we would not be exaggerating if we said that his way was to swallow one’s ego and be modest, despite the divine gifts of reverence and awe that Allah the Exalted gives to the people of veracity and uprightness.

Dr Nūruddīn was a gift from the Lord, Glorified and Exalted is He, to the land of ash-Shām, and thus we ask Allah, Mighty and Majestic is He, to bless us and to let us benefit from him.

He passed away on Wednesday morning, the 5th of Ṣafar, 1442 (23rd of September 2020) and was buried in Damascus close to the grave of the Knower of Allah, ash-Sheikh Arslān ad-Dimashqī.

We ask Allah to envelop our sheikh in the vastness of His mercy and to place him in the loftiest heights of Paradise, and we ask Him to have mercy on our scholars who have preceded us, to bless the lives of those who remain, and to compensate us well for those who have departed.

[1] He is a descendant of the Master of the Earlier and Later Generations through both of his parents, as the ʿItr family is from the progeny of the grandson al-Ḥasan and the family of Sirāj ad-Dīn is from the progeny of the grandson al-Ḥusayn, may Allah be pleased with both of them.
[2]He was given this name based on what his mother, al-Ḥājjah Duriyyah, may Allah have mercy on her (the only daughter of Sīdī ash-Sheikh Najīb), has stated, which is that ash-Sheikh Najīb Sirājuddīn, may Allah have mercy on him and be pleased with him, the grandfather of Prof Dr Nūruddīn ʿItr, told her to give him that name.
[3]He is one of the peers of the Muḥaddith of ash-Shām, ash-Sheikh Badruddīn al-Ḥasanī, may Allah be pleased with him, with whom he had an unshakable relationship, and they would visit each other often. He affirmed that ash-Sheikh Badruddīn said, ‘Ash-Sheikh Najīb is the most knowledgeable person on earth in his time’.
[4]At that time, there were no universities for the sciences of the Revealed Law in Syria.
