Question:
What is the ruling on men wearing trousers? And what is the
limit of the izār[1]
for trousers? Is it like the thawb…above the
ankles?
Answer (from Sheikh
Rushdī Salīm al-Qalam):
Trousers are normal clothes nowadays; they’re not exclusive
to one nation from amongst all the others. However, it is not stipulated that
they be like the thawb, and they should not hang down on the ground.

Thank you for this translation. Is the shaykh saying that the ruling for pants isn't the same as a thawb and can go below the ankles without any dislike?
Yes. And Allah knows best.
